Devon has many family-fun activities planned throughout the school year to benefit our school community. These events are a chance to connect with new friends and old! Our social functions are not fund-raisers and any fees are budgeted to only cover their costs.
Please refer to the school calendar for specific date and time of the following social events sponsored by the PTO.
Welcome Back Social
This nighttime event is a great way for families and children to re-connect or make new friends following a long summer. As this event takes place during the first two weeks of the school year, telephone calls and e-mails for organizing begin during the summer. Volunteers plan and staff the event. This is typically an outside event.
This is a well attended and very well planned evening event. The Coordinators and Chairpersons of the event organize games, crafts, prizes, food, beverages and clean-up. Many volunteers make up mini-committees that take charge of organizing food or the spooky room for instance. The children love this event and usually come in costume! There are lots of games and prizes, a DJ playing fun dance music, a spooky room, pizza, drinks and crafts.
Pizza Bingo Night
Students enjoy food and beverages and play bingo during this fun event. This is typically a January or February event. There are loads of prizes and the kids really enjoy picking out that special item. Volunteers are needed to help with planning and event night staffing.
4th Grade Party
This is a special end-of-the-year event for our fourth graders who are preparing for their big day as middle schoolers! Volunteers are needed to help organize and chaperone the event.
4th Grade Yearbook
The Chairperson(s) of this project begins working with other 4th grade parents in the beginning of the school year to assemble a yearbook that is distributed to the 4th graders at the end of the school year. Volunteers are needed to design, plan, consolidate photos, etc.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon
This fun event demonstrates our appreciation for the Devon Elementary staff. The chairperson(s) coordinates either a breakfast or a lunch brought to school on the designated day. The chair(s) coordinates food, beverage and volunteer servers to bring and set-up the food so our fabulous staff doesn’t have to lift a finger! Recently, these events have been held during half days for parent teacher conferences. Typically, each day has a theme menu (Sandwiches and Salads, International Food, Comfort Food, etc.). DES families then volunteer to bring a dish which is served at the luncheon. It is yummy and much appreciated!
Parents’ Speakers Bureau
On one winter evening, the PTO sponsors a speaker on a topic of interest to many Devon parents. The Chairperson typically works with the Guidance Counselor to find a topic and speaker. The chair then assists in setting the date. Light refreshments are served at the event. Recent topics have included: internet safety, childhood anxiety, etc.
Additionally, the PTO supplies hospitality, food & refreshments for student and teacher events throughout the school year.
