** Kindergarten Update:
Devon Kindergarten students have been enjoying our new theme, Sweet Dreams, this month. We read some fantastic literature and participated in terrific activities related to nighttime. A big event in this unit involved designing our own pillowcases after reading wonderful books like Mitra Modarressi’s, The Dream Pillow or Pillow of Dreams by Peter J. Honigsberg. This tied into our chance to be leaders in the school as we helped run a service project to benefit Ryan’s Case for Smiles. The whole school participated in a pajama day and donated $1 towards this great, kid-centered organization. Students wore their PJs and brought in their pillows with their new pillowcases to enjoy our pretend sleepover. It was so much fun!
** In language arts, we are continuing to develop our sight word vocabulary and are becoming good writers. Please keep practicing those Star Words at home! We are also focusing on rhyming and word families. In math, we are working on telling time, counting on, and counting back. In science, we are learning about how the Earth, sun, and moon all work together in space. Ask your student if he/she can demonstrate the words orbit and rotate! We also talked about nocturnal animals like bats and owls. In social studies, we’ve been enjoying our PATHS curriculum with classroom activities and lessons with Mrs. Noel on being a good friend and how to handle problems. February will bring us lessons about taking care of our teeth, working with money, counting all the way to 100, and growing from babies to the big kids we are today in our Family Life unit! It’s a busy and fun time of year in Kindergarten at Devon!
